Commuters heading east toward Holden and Down East will want to map out extra travel time starting Monday morning. The Maine Department of Transportation is launching daytime surface paving along Route 1A between 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM, expanding an active highway preservation contract that began night paving in August.

Crews from Bangor-based contractor Eurovia Atlantic Coast will tackle a 2.79-mile corridor stretching from the railroad overpass near Interstate 395 and the Route 9 Connector to just east of Copeland Hill Road. Work will rotate across the center turn lane and both travel lanes one section at a time, keeping two-way traffic moving through the remaining lanes. State transportation officials advise drivers to expect slowdowns or seek alternate bypasses through Friday afternoon, while remaining night paving continues through October 23.
