On Tuesday evening, the Brewer City Council formally accepted the resignation of Deputy Mayor Bill Kimball and voted to leave his seat vacant until the upcoming municipal election in November. Kimball, who stepped down late last month due to time constraints with his family and heat pump business, had three years remaining on his term. Rather than holding a costly special election, councilors decided to place the remaining one-year term on the November ballot alongside regular municipal races. Nomination papers for interested residents will become available in September. In the interim, four councilors will handle city business, with a decision on whether to appoint a new deputy mayor before the post-election annual meeting still under consideration.
