Following the recent resignation of Deputy Mayor Bill Kimball, local officials are preparing to address the sudden vacancy on the City Council. Kimball stepped down after citing the growing demands of balancing his family life and running a heating business. With four remaining councilors, city leadership plans to formally accept the resignation and declare the seat vacant during its upcoming meeting on August 11.
According to city administration, the council is expected to place the open seat on the upcoming November municipal ballot rather than calling a special election. Nominations will open in September for residents interested in serving out the remainder of the term through November 2027. The fall ballot will also feature the regular three-year seat currently held by state representative Dani O'Halloran.
