Banana Ball Is Coming to Death Valley
Baton Rouge, LA · October 18, 2026
A crisp 48-degree bite greeted the porch this morning, but clear skies and an afternoon of outdoor music make lingering inside tough to justify.
The Lead
Banana Ball is officially heading to Death Valley. The East Baton Rouge Metro Council approved a resolution granting local sales and use tax rebates on tickets, concessions, and parking for the Savannah Bananas’ planned multi-day appearance at Tiger Stadium and Alex Box Stadium in March 2027. Authored by Councilman Rowdy Gaudet and backed by Visit Baton Rouge, the measure aims to attract massive touring productions that drive substantial weekend spending.
Tourism officials estimate the high-energy exhibition games will draw tens of thousands of regional visitors and generate more than $1.6 million in local economic activity. A similar incentive previously cleared the path for major stadium concerts, but filling the hundred-thousand-seat cathedral with choreographed trick plays and yellow tuxedos is an entirely new play. Ticket lottery details roll out through the team's portal this winter.

- Spanish Town Flamingos
- In the 1980s, Spanish Town parade organizers began covertly planting dozens of painted plywood flamingos across the University Lakes under cover of night. By dawn, locals paddle out in pirogues and kayaks to snatch them, keeping the satirical Mardi Gras tradition floating.
