Delta County emergency managers have officially downgraded wildfire restrictions from Stage 2 to Stage 1 across all unincorporated county lands, state parks, and wildlife areas. The decision follows late-summer conditions that helped moderate fire danger indices along the valley floor and lower foothills.
Under Stage 1 rules, residents and visitors may once again enjoy campfires and charcoal barbecues, provided they are confined within permanently constructed fire rings or commercial grills on private land or at designated recreation sites. Open debris burning, agricultural ditch burning without prior dispatch notification, and non-exempt fireworks remain prohibited. Officials caution that despite the downgrade, dry grasses and surrounding pinyon-juniper stands remain vulnerable under ninety-degree heat. Keep water and a shovel handy beside any pit, and drown coals until they are completely cold to the touch.
