Two New Bottle Shops Coming to the Center and the Heights
Arlington, MA · October 13, 2026
Low clouds are hanging quietly over Spy Pond as the post-holiday workweek gets rolling. Keep an eye out for work crews if your commute takes you anywhere near Academy Street this morning.
The Lead
Arlington's commercial districts are preparing to welcome two new bottle shops following unanimous approval from the Select Board. The votes fill both retail alcohol licenses created when voters approved Question 2 at the spring ballot, expanding the town's longtime cap from six package stores to eight.
Arlington Center Fine Wines, led by Pietro Giglio and Chris Lianos, will set up shop at 5 Medford Street just off Massachusetts Avenue. Further west, Ruby Wine and Spirits, operated by Utsav Patel, will occupy 1340–1342 Massachusetts Avenue in the Heights. A third applicant withdrew following board concerns regarding state restrictions on holding multiple licenses in a single municipality. Both ownership groups now turn their attention to state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission approvals and interior renovations before opening.
