Help Review the Names Heading Onto the New Veterans Memorial
Arlington, MA · October 12, 2026
The steady rain on the roof sets the tempo for a quiet holiday Monday. If the kids are climbing the walls indoors, you can lace up skates for bonus ice sessions up in the Heights.
The Lead
The town is asking military families and longtime residents to help review the names destined for the reconstructed Veterans Memorial Park on Massachusetts Avenue. Arlington’s Veterans Services Department recently concluded an exhaustive audit of more than 13,000 historical service records in partnership with the Massachusetts State Archives, working to ensure no local veteran is overlooked before the site undergoes reconstruction.
Service-era rosters are now rolling out in stages for public review. The newest releases cover service members from the Vietnam War through the Gulf War, as well as the post-9/11 Global War on Terrorism—an era where locating complete discharge paperwork for National Guard and Reserve members has proved especially challenging. Residents can browse the published rosters online and submit corrections, discharge documents, or omitted names directly to the town’s veterans director before the finalized lists are delivered to stone carvers this winter.
