Tiny Shed Wraps Its Outdoor Music Season This Afternoon
Arlington, MA · October 11, 2026
Rain is pattering against the roof this morning, but Sunday brings plenty of reasons to step out.
The Lead
Arlington has secured more than $2 million across six state grants through Massachusetts’ Community One Stop for Growth program. Town officials confirmed the $2,048,413 allocation will fund a targeted mix of downtown commercial improvements, infrastructure updates, and affordable housing planning. The town earned eligibility and preferential scoring through its compliance with the MBTA Communities Act and its recent designation as a Housing Choice Community.
Town Manager Jim Feeney emphasized that the state awards will directly support downtown revitalization while helping advance municipal housing goals. The new capital builds on last year's $3.5 million state grant, which helped the Housing Corporation of Arlington acquire properties along Massachusetts Avenue and Newman Way. Planning Director Claire Ricker and her department will now begin distributing funds into scheduled pre-development and streetscape designs.

Spotlight & Story
- Spy Pond Recorded as early as 1656 in Cambridge records after colonial scouts spied the glacial kettle hole from higher ground, the water was officially renamed “Arlington Lake” in 1867. Unimpressed townspeople roundly ignored the genteel rebranding, keeping the blunt original on local tongues.
