Mass Ave Closes This Saturday — Traffic Plans and Detours Inside
Arlington, MA · September 15, 2026
Grab an extra layer for your morning commute today—the season's first real overcast chill has arrived, just as evening choruses and community gatherings kick off.
The Lead
Preparations are underway for the 49th annual Town Day this Saturday, bringing major street closures and transit detours to the center of town. Massachusetts Avenue will be closed to all vehicles between Pleasant Street (Route 60) and Jason Street from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, blocking through traffic and cutting off vehicle access from adjoining neighborhood side streets. The MBTA is rerouting the Route 77 bus around the commercial district throughout the shutdown. Running from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM, the celebration features more than 200 artisan and civic booths, live performances on the Town Hall plaza stage, and public safety demonstrations behind Robbins Library, followed by evening fireworks over Spy Pond at 7:30 PM. Because parking is restricted in municipal lots, officials urge everyone to arrive on foot or two wheels. Full booth maps and performance times are posted on the municipal portal.
