Public Drop-In Today on New Emergency Communications Tower

Amherst, NH · October 5, 2026

Foliage drives filled the back roads this weekend, but Monday shifts our focus straight to town planning.

The Lead

American Tower Corporation is holding an open public stakeholder session this afternoon from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Amherst Fire and EMS facility. Town Meeting voters approved Article 41 in March, granting the Board of Selectmen authority to negotiate a long-term lease of municipal land to erect an emergency communications tower. Today's drop-in meeting gives neighbors and abutters their first look at the 180-foot monopole design, exact placement behind the public safety complex, and coverage modeling intended to eliminate cellular and emergency dispatch dead zones along Route 101. Representatives will answer questions on tree-line sightlines, fall-zone safety buffers, and lease revenue ahead of formal Planning Board reviews later this fall.
