Community Drive Gains Ground to Protect Lake Warren Shoreline

Alstead, NH · October 7, 2026

A sharp autumn bite makes an extra layer essential before heading out this morning. The woodstoves are stoked, and there is steady community business on tap from morning through noon.

The Lead

A concerted push to safeguard the northern shore of Lake Warren is gaining momentum as conservation partners work to keep a critical waterfront peninsula in its natural state. When the wooded parcel was recently listed on the private real estate market for potential subdivision into vacation lots, neighbors and outdoor educators grew concerned about watershed erosion and disappearing shoreline access. In response, Kroka Expeditions teamed up with the Monadnock Conservancy, the Lake Warren Preservation Association, and the Alstead Select Board to negotiate an option to purchase the property. The coalition has already lined up more than $439,000 in early pledges toward the $750,000 total goal. Organizers are now channeling that initial energy into a broader community fundraising drive to secure the remaining funds before the closing window shuts this autumn.
